Default Tube guilt

Does anyone ever feel guilty about building amps with tubes knowing they are a finite resource? Lately I've been looking into oddball tv tubes and compactrons instead of the usual numbers.

Not likely. Plenty of other things to worry over. Maybe taking up self flagellation as a hobby would be more direct.

No. It is our responsibility to gain the benefit from the resources our fathers expended in making those valves.

My guess is that they are just as finite as iPods and Nokia phones.

I should feel more guilt over driving my car... it's 2007 and we all should be driving electric cars and trains should be all magnetic tracks...

Truly, the valve amp is the only decadent thing in my life. When I build up the guts to make my own, that'll be the 2nd...

AFAIK, tubes are still made, especially the "usual numbers."

By this philosophy, I should give up vintage wine since each vintage is a finite resource. That's gonna be a tough sell chez moi.

What use is a tube in its box? Make the most of them! Just don't waste the special ones in places where their benefit will not be needed
