So I hooked the old speaker I pulled back up to the old tube radio. I was thinking about fixing it and giving it back to my grandparents as a gift. Now the enclosure is to rotted from flood damage to repair so I pulled the actual radio out of it and tossed the rotted wood. Look in at he ratsnest of wiring it looks like someone tried to fix it at some point but gave up halfway threw and there are many wires that go nowhere.
The radio is an RCA 221 Superheterodyne. Range is 540-1500, 5400-15350 Kilocycles. Tubes used: 80 2A5 2B7 58 (two of them) 2A7 I don't know enough about how tube recivers work to fill in the blanks and would really like to avoid sending it to a place (mainly poor college student money issues). I would love to rebuild it but I can't even copy the circuit. I've been looking online but have yet to find a schematic for it...Any help would be greatly appreciated! |

Wow! I was expecting to be disappointed (in which case I would have to find a use for the awesomely huge variable cap). I sent you a message with my email.
Oh I also have a question about restoring it. Would the 5 big oil caps (at least I think they're oil caps) also have to be replaced along with the rest of the resistors and capacitors? |

Most American tube radio schematics (from the Rider books) are posted on line, at http://www.nostalgiaair.org . Alignment information is often included.
Also, there is a good Usenet discussion group that mostly deals with antique radios, at http://groups.google.com (which has the searchable archive, and also offers posting ability); the rec.antiques.radio+phono group. - Tom Gootee http://www.fullnet.com/~tomg/index.html |
