Hi Again
I hve read the articles etc but still cannot find how starting values are implemented when using a kimmell mu stage of the pentode triode variety. Lets say you have a triode and of course a pentode (e180f d3a e280f). with regards to the triode what figures are arbitrarily chosen for anode resistance grid resistance and cathode biasing?are they modelled on the resistance coupled amplifier data? How are the values of rka rkb rscreen and cathode resistor derived for the pentode. I aunderstand the theory of a dynamic load et al but can anyone please enlighten me as to how one from first principles arrives at the values? thanks Nick

If its the article entitled, 'Mu Stage philosophy'-Allan Kimmel, then all the equasions and methods for calculation are included in the article....
Personally I would dump the pentode and use the source-follower as suggested, But then again, I'm not adverse to using silicon In The Right Places....

What do you want the Kimmel for? The Kimmel is a fancy-looking circuit, but fancy doesn't necessarily mean better. Read This Thread over at T3H Geek Zone. The Kimmel may not be all it's cracked up to be, and it would seem that its high frequency performance isn't all that great. You might be better off just using an active load with the triode of your choice.
