Gee,I did'nt think that a high voltage microwave oven transformer could be used as a choke,missed this one because I stuck to theory that it must be gapped.Initially I thought I could salvage it for output duty when I found
most were welded along the E,I stampings that prevented one from disasembling to reuse the core.But since they are relatively big they could be used as power chokes to supply a decent current before they saturate or is it?

I have used MOT's as power supply chokes and as plate chokes. There fine as both, though a proper plate choke is probably much better.

How about using a regular filiament transformer as a choke? Does the secondary need to be shorted?
