which has better specs ? audio note p1 se at 10 watts or sam's audio labs heathkit 151 with 7 watts in triode mode ?
If triode mode is around 1.3w per tube, total triode power for 2 el84 tubes should be around 2.6 watts unless the heathkit 151 circuit calls for more than 2 tubes. Audio Note P1 SE has 2 tubes per channel going for 10 watts. |

It's hard to compare two product by one word. each product has it's own characteristic and specification. For EL84, it's a good tube gives good human voice, but not better for instruments. Tubes like 6V6, El34 could sound better on both voice and ins. Triode connection gives less power than others, but it produces more " fine and delicate " music.
For better choice, consider 300B, 2A3, or 6AS7. Remember, 6AS7 is eq. to 6080, but 6080 is designed for power regulation and the former one for music. For which one sounds better, depends on your ear! music is made for human ears, and NOT for scope measurement. So don't climb too high to the highest point. |

I would assume the heathkit 151 mod is pushpull, and 7W is right in line with the triode connected PP 6BQ5 amps I designed and built.
10W from a pair in PSE would require either UL or pentode connection, triode connection might give you half this. Why not design and build your own? Lots of help here to get you started.
