Default AVO MKIII Tester Operation?

I have an AVO MKIII that was my late fathers, I am trying to work out how to use it and test a valve efficiently, I read about mu and gm, and would like to be sure how to operate it correctly. I have va alve data book, I think i understand how to enter and set those figures, and want to be clear on the testing sequence of testing for Good/Bad and the mutual conductance. I have seen people quoting that a particular valve should have a mu of say 63, I wonder where these figures are obtained for each valve, because i cannot see a corresponding figure in the valve data manual that seems to be that figure.
Can anyone help me with this? I understand it may be a little complex. I am a learner by Instruction or to be shown, rather than by reading, especially when some terms do not mean much to me! so any help would be welcomed as My father left a lot of valves too.
