I just made me a chassis out of 1mm zinc plate and wonder if there's gonna be a problem. The only thing that makes me bother at the moment is that it's a bit too soft.

Now this is quite unique! What a novel idea using Zinc as a basis for a chassis! I would bet you could polish up that plate of Zinc to quite the luster....it would be a truely a one-of-a-kind looking thing.
I just looked up the properties of Zinc as you might want to to research the stuff your thinking of using. The one characteristic was the magnetic properties of the metal and Zinc is OK as it won't interfere with the magnetic fields flying off the transformers. There was a big debate here not long ago about Steel vs. Aluminum for chassis materials, as one is a magnetic material and the other is not. I am concerned however with the inherent softness of Zinc as it might distort when loaded with five Kilos of transformers atop only one mm of sheeting. My guess is that it is a Zinc alloy with just enough other elements to make it quite suitable for a chassis. _______________________________________Rick....... . |

And I also worry about the heavy transformers so I will probably reinforce the chassis somehow. |

1mm Zinc plate chassis is ok, i tried to make a 2A3 se amp on a Zinc plate chassis, the amp have two output, one choke and one power transformer.

I think pure zinc is similar to lead.

Yes it is, just open a zinc carbon battery and see by yourself. This may be a 1mm zinc plated mild steel sheet, the one used to build barracks or sheeds...
