Default My first post!

good afternoon all,

Well thisis not really my first sine I posted on the solid state section regardin ga problem with my M50 amplifier (and the solution worked!! Thx!)
So here I have the following question:

I am contemplating building my own valve Amp.
regardless of cost,
which of the following would you choose to build for yourself and why?
(I can already see the controversy)

Bottle head paramour or paramount
http://www.bottlehead.com/et/et.html
or
DIY Billies (lady day)
http://www.diyhifisupply.com/diyhs_ladyday.htm
?

I saw treads about one or the other but not compairing both.

Thanks you in advance.

I'd build the DIY HiFi Supply Kit, but only because I find the whole half naked pictures of the designer's wife, the sexualized product names, as well as the cult of Bottlehead all a bit creepy.

The DHS is a single feed (DRD I think) circuit while the Bottlehead is parafeed. You should search around for opinions of the merits and drawbacks of both. I am sure that both sound excellent, so I don't think there is a wrong choice.

The best option, of course, is to do a lot of reading and design your own, or modify someone else's design and source the parts yourself. Though, for a first high voltage build, a kit is not a bad option.

I built a pair of Paramours as my first set of amps and they were excellent. I suppose it all depends on how much power you need. Also the Bottlehead forum is truly excellent when it comes to helping build the amps.

Certainly not what I expected to see! What an unusual page! The sidescrolling too...

Hi Coyote,
I am about half way through my first build and so far it has gone very well. I also looked at the kits, but in the end decided that they didn't offer what I wanted. I took the plunge and launched straight into building from scratch. It has been a great challenge but also really enjoyable. Deciding what I wanted to build and sourcing the parts has been half of the fun. If you search my posts, you can see what I decided to go with, why and where I found the parts. I will soon be posting an update with some pictures of my half built amp. Decide what you want, research it and build it from scratch, it is quite doable.
Cheers,
Rob

Thumbs up well thank you

ok,
Well thanks to the four of you for your input.
Going all the way and building from scratch seems too much of a challenge for me at this time. I am still trying to learn how to read the diagrams...!
Interesting comment regarding the single feed and parafeed I had not noticed that and will research it.
I read a lot about both amplifiers and they get great reveiws (naturally) it is more onthe technical side that I am lacking the knowledge to understand the differences.
In any case yet again this site rocks!

Thank you.

Alain

Bob, interesting stuff but... please don't post ads here. There are sections of the forum that are more appropriate.

That is Doc's wife & he took the pictures... i don't mind the pictures, the side scrolling irks me thou...

The Bottlehead stuff is squarely aimed at low cost to get people started, and they do that really well. Brian Cherry's amps are a step up in terms of execution.

Iwouldn't mind any of the amps on either of the sites (my buddy Chris has paramour II and buddy Jerry Ella) -- of the amps on the 2 sites with no concern for cost, i'd get a Joplin.
