1st Time Project - Report 2 + advice sought
Hi all,
No I haven't given up, although it has been some time since report 1. The sheet metal workers have just been glacially slow. Anyhow, my aluminium chassis has been completed. Well, not actually finished but at least all of the metal work has been done.
It consists of 4 pieces (all aluminium) as shown. A 'box' made of 3mm sheet. A base, made of 1.6mm sheet. A top made of 3mm sheet and finally a 'sub-top' which sits underneath the top. The idea of the sub-top is that I will mount all the components here (including the sockets and then the top which is 5mm above will be placed over the whole lot to give a very clean look.
I am happy with the overall result and the work is very precise.
Now I can build in earnest. In the meantime, I am going to send the top, the box and the transformer covers off to be polished and electroplated. I am planning black nickel for the box and transformer covers and gold for the top - however I am keen for aesthetic input (as my taste is questionable at best) and will consider any other options seriously! If you have seen something that really works or you have always thought that some finish or other would look just fantastic, suggest away - pretend money is not an option.
Cheers,
Rob
