Default Aikido for guitar?

Has anyone tried an Aikido preamp for guitar?
http://www.tubecad.com/2004/blog0011.htm

I'm wondering if there'd be enough gain, and if it would sound good.

I had a friend stop over with his guitar just for that purpose of seeing how it would sound going thru the Aikido. The sound was very smooth and detailed. I don't play any musical instruments but I can enjoy the high quality. It did play very loud with a Quicksilver mono block 60 watt tube amplifier. The Aikido was a 6SN7/6SN7 version.

I'v built several gitar amps with that kind of circuit (12AX7 tubes), but when A/B testing with amps with th same circuit with standard common cathode configs, no one can har a difference, even at full crunch levels.
I was hoping for better compression at clipping levels, but if there are any differences we couldn't hear any.

I built up a 6sj7/6922 Aikido for the input stage in a guitar amp. It sounded very good and was quiet and detailed, but I considered it to be impractival since it took two tubes to build up a single stage.
