So the same question in a different way....
How long is a piece of string...?? Such things amount to application and personal taste.... Its probably nearly impossible to say which is 'better'.--Better for what? They both make the same amount of sickening 'Pop' if you drop them on a concrete floor..... These are both pretty old antiquated beasts, The 45 has quite a following, and the PX4 is hideously expensive IF you can find a good NOS one, so That must have its admirers too--All those far-eastern guys buying up all the Marconi/GEC examples has driven the price through the roof, but this Doesnt make it a 'Good' tube in MHO .... Me personally I wouldnt bother with either of these--Way too expensive ...... If this is to be a 'new build' I would go for something like the 300B, as there are just SO many varieties to choose from and at least these are popular and more than one place makes them, so when the inevitable happens, at least you can get a new one or pair.... Matching up a couple of PX4's could well cost you a small fortune, Same I guess for the 45

One would assume that Aldovan has his reasons to not use 6L6, EL34, KT88 or 300B. Neither my PX25 nor a friend's 45 amps in any way approximate a 300B amp. No experience with PX4. |

I prefer 6V6 best....
But 300B or 45 is okay if it's Western Electric, the transformers are gold plated and you only listen at night during a full moon. Seriously, I think you could make a good or a bad amp with either tube... there is so much involved besides the tube! |
