Hello Folks ,
I have pile of these very handsome STC/ITT loctal G180/2M gas regs which glow a very pretty pink colour . As I'm sitting on an enourmous pile of loctal sockets (plus I was a little bored!) , thought that pressing a few of these into action would be a good idea for my latest prototype . I've hunted down the datasheet which details a third electrode 'AA' , but what is this for ? On the datasheet (page 2) it shows an additional series resistor linking to this 'AA' pin but no value for this resistor is specified http://frank.nostalgiaair.org/short/054/4/493.pdf ...what do I do with this pin ? Leave it floating or 'wing it' with something like 470k etc . Sorry for the naivity , any sensible suggestions welcome 316a |

Hi 316a,
I would hazard a guess that it's for reliable firing. The 470k option sounds a good idea! Cheers, |

316a,
Just noticed that on page 1 it gives the Uaa voltage. By now you've probably already determined what's going on anyway. Cheers, |

...you mean like a primer pin ? I fired them up without AA connected and the things still seem to work alright . I've been adding more resistors in parallel across them and it's sitting quite happily , only the ripple increases , probably as I've only bypassed each one with a 0.015uF oiler . I'm using these stacked so will connect AA to to A or each respective regulator . The wife should like these , just her colour !

Are we talking punk pink or baby pink? A regulated HT supply with mercury vapour rectifiers (cue the safety posts) and these references could be a work of art.

...certainly not a natural looking pink ! I'm tempted to add another pair of sockets and use a pair of these loctal QS108/45 EE things instead and a single G180/2M , making a stack of three per side . This would mean an 8 valve stereo concertina input stage ! I'm tempted to use a gas reg for the negative bias supply for the output stage , got so many of the things ! I have a set of RG1/250 mercury vapour , but this project will use the cheap as chips PY500a instead .
