Hi all,
I've just purchased a batch of NOS tubes in Israel. I got EL84, ECC88/6DJ8 , 5U4GB, 5R4GYB, 6080WA (RCA) and 6AK5 (RCA). The question is what can I do with the 6080WA and the 6AK5 . I bought them on a hunch at about $4 a piece. Avi |

6080 can be used in pushpull triode outputs, otl amplifiers, and as a series pass element in a tube based voltage regulator it is basically the same as a 6AS7..
http://www.mif.pg.gda.pl/homepages/f...137/6/6AK5.pdf Should be good as a ccs, a pentode based voltage amplifier and probably works ok in triode connection as well.

6080's also work rather well in PP amps with output transformers. Married to the 6H30's they can make a very nice 3 valve stereo amp.

Hi,
Thanks. There's not much literature about the 6080WA. I wonder if you know of any amp schematics. Thanks Avi N2EGL |

Hi,
The 6080 can be used exactly like a 6AS7 so just look for 6AS7 amp schematics, there should be some floating about. |

Lots of people use the 6080 as a cathode follower to drive high impedance headphones. I tried it as a line stage and could never get it quiet enough.

Kevin, The data sheet suggests the 6AK5 is a linear high RF type. It should be reasonably low noise to do that job. Do think a 6AK5 with regulated B+ on both plate and screen would make a good 2nd gain block in a phono preamp? Gm is 5 mA./V. So, approx. 35 dB. of gain is produced with a 12 KOhm load resistor. FWIW, my thinking is a 6922 section for the 1st gain block, a 6AK5 as the 2nd gain block, and a DC coupled cathode follower to buffer the O/P.
