6080 can be used in pushpull triode outputs, otl amplifiers, and as a series pass element in a tube based voltage regulator it is basically the same as a 6AS7..

Should be good as a ccs, a pentode based voltage amplifier and probably works ok in triode connection as well.

Kevin,

The data sheet suggests the 6AK5 is a linear high RF type. It should be reasonably low noise to do that job. Do think a 6AK5 with regulated B+ on both plate and screen would make a good 2nd gain block in a phono preamp? Gm is 5 mA./V. So, approx. 35 dB. of gain is produced with a 12 KOhm load resistor.

FWIW, my thinking is a 6922 section for the 1st gain block, a 6AK5 as the 2nd gain block, and a DC coupled cathode follower to buffer the O/P.
