Less than 4EUR/pcs so really no big deal. The big deal is inspiration from you, Salas.

Measured the heater current, both 6V6 together pull 1.9A AC from the heater winding.

Voltage doubler is pair of 1n4002 and pair 2200uf caps, feeding lm317 in regulator configuration that's right off the data sheet.

Has to draw more current from the source to double the volts, doesn't it?

Yes, of course.

The info that I had was that it would draw quite a bit more than that...

I will probably make an individual reg for each tube, as previously discussed.

It draw ~(0.45+0.45)=0.9A from the reg and it would be 1.8A from the source if the power efficiency was 100% and the tubes draw spot on spec. So 1.9A from source looks quite fine.

One reg with a LM338T, up to 5 amps draw.

To use the most waste heat efficient approach is the priority I think. That would be a low drop out voltage regulator with mains worse case drop kept in mind and a sink that will keep it long term reliable. Each time we halve the temp we quadruple life expectancy in electronics.

A bigger heatsink I have.

Is there a better regulator (lower dropout) for this application?

This is a wonderful line amp, have been listening to it for the past week.
But it seems to have a bit too low a gain, I crank it all the way up and it's still bearable. Was the gain at 15? Must have lost it some where?
