Default SE bass

I have 2 music angel amps.

one is a 65 watt push pull EL34

the other is a Single Ended 845 20 watt amp.

The se45 20 watt sounds much better than the el34, but despite its lower output has much more bass.

Why?

Low damping factor.

Another reason may be: the output transformer of SE amp is better than that of push-pull amp

Or worse. A big whack of second harmonic will subjectively fatten up the bass.

So how does a second harmonic at, say, 30dB below the fundamental cause louder sounding bass of, say, a noticeable 3dB? I would put the blame on a saturated OPT.

I'd agree with that.

so all else being equal a s/e shouldn't sound bassier than a push-pull design?

Having said that, I do like the sound of the 845 tube, they are monster tubes and the midrange projection is awesome.

Default Music Angel 845

I have a Music Angel 845 also, and find the bass and performance to be great! If you havent already, try some better input/driver tubes, some NOS Philips/Sylvanias worked wonders for me.

My next step is to try some better quality 845 tubes, from SuperTNT (metal plate).

Enjoy your amp!

For better bass can help the deeper negative feedback. Mostly PP amps doesn't have feedback...
