The cathode is at 5V. Remember, it IS the heater.
On the negative half of the cycle, the plate is negative - the electrons don't go to it. On the positive half, it's positive - the electrons go to it. That's all there is to it.
Re. the 5volt thing... what???????? With regards the primary voltage of the transformer, the heater voltage is of no consequence.

Re. the plate being negative etc.... what did I say that made what you are saying here any different?? We seem to be in agreement there.

What I am clarifying to Tony is that with respects the plate, the cathode is negative so conduction will occur, because it sees negative through the load.

Conversely, the load sees a positive potential at the cathode when it is conducting.

That is all there is to that.
