Default 7701 distortion device?

Hello,
Due to my habit of removing the tubes from all of the old electronic devices I can lay my hands on, I now have a collection of rather obscure radio tubes that seem to have no use in audio. Would it be possible to use the 7701 beam tetrode in some sort of distortion device? Also, what purposes could the 6KE8 or the 6GH8 serve in the audio role?

I am just trying to find some sort of use for these old tubes besides nostalgic value. I am a guitarist, so distortion is obviously not an issue.

The characteristics of this one are so screwey, it's not much use for anything else.

I use 6KE8's for the error amps for hollow state voltage regulators. The 6GH8 would also work well in that regard. Both also have nice, high Vhk ratings. You could also use them as self-contained Kimmel's (the 6KE8 would be better for this due to having about twice the g(m) ). Or use the triode half as a front end preamp, and the pentode section as an active load for a next stage LTP. Or use the pentode "up front", and the triode as a cathodyne phase splitter.

Hi,

I've used 6GH8/A as self-contained Kimmel stages. They have a darker tone, IMO. OK linedriver into other tube equipment.

Those 6KE8 specs look great, as Miles said.

The 7701 looks like an "AX84" candidate

Cheers!

Thanks for the help. I'm going to go try this and see what happens.
