Hey,
Just wondering as i carnt find anything on the search. Is there any difference using a toroidal transformer compared to the normal type seen on most of the designs? Regards Damon |

In power transformer duty a toroidal will allow much more high frequency hash. In this case it will perform worse in terms of audio than an EI transformer. However they are more compact and efficient.
For output duty the toroidal will have better bandwidth than a comparable EI transformer. However in PP duty it will not tolarate any DC between the sides or it will saturate. This can be compensated for in the circuit design. In a SE design they need to be used as parafeed transformers, ie no DC in the transformer. Piltron do a range of toroidal output transformers which have air gaps incorporated. These allow them to be used with current unbalanced PP stages, and as SE transformers. Shoog |
