What would be the objective of such an arrangement? I mean, use standard SE OPT, disconnect speakers by switch, slab a suitable dummy load across the secondary (10 ohms for 8 ohms nominal sec, 4,7 ohms for 4 ohms nominal), then parallel whichever impedance headphone you want to that, be happy.

No?

Regards,

Tom

No, not quite. This steals quite a lot of power from the amp. This is not a problem if you use a standard driver tube -> power tube configuration, but with a dedicated OPT with the right tap, it opens up the possibility of a simple spud amp using a 5842/437a/6c45/6688/7788, etc. I happen to like this a lot, plus it is cheaper to build in that the power supply requirements are simpler, and even custom wound OPTs can be less expensive. And, it can make a pretty good line stage too. It is still heavy, expensive, and hot, but it is less heavy, expensive, and hot.

Oh, I see what you mean, I didnīt consider such small tubes.

But if you scale that only slightly, say a spud using a single trioded D3a, EL83, EL84 or something, a std 10k:4/8 ohms xfrmr plus dummy load still would be viable.
