?Hey everyone first post.
I just have a quick question about the topic. I've made myself a 12ax7 preamp following hoffmans design, and i plan to make any decent poweramp, mosfet, bjt, gainclone. Ummmm so no clue about tube outputs but i assume the voltage is very high from the 12ax7 ( i'm giveing them 224V B+ is that ok?) so when it leavs the preamp and hits the poweramp will these voltage cause any upsets on my behalf |

Yes, it is fine, don't worry (don't forget the coupling cap though)

It depends on input impedance of your SS output stage: how high it is, how it depends on a frequency, and how linear, that is also very significant.
I got very-very good results using triode strapped 12L6GC driving 4 transistors.

I see you are in Melbourne which means that you have one of the best SS Amps anywhere available just down the street.
Have a chat to Hugh Dean. http://www.aksaonline.com/ I have one of his LIFEFORCE 55 amps and one of his older AKSA 55 Nivarna Plus Amps. I use these as reference amps against which I judge the valve amps I design and build. The LIFEFORCE 55 is stunningly detailed and articulate with effortless presentation across the entire frequency range. The AKSA 55 has a bit of that valve like sound, warm and rich. I run one of his GK-1 tube buffered preamps all the time, regardless of what power amp I have hooked up on any given day. Cheers, Ian |
