It's a trade off and depends on your B+ choice. A table on George's site documents this:

Look at the EL34 section, move down to block for your B+ voltage, and look at the section whose load Z matches your output transformer. Now you choose an Rk that gives you the trade off that you want. Lower Rk gives you more current, better distortion and dampening factor at the expense of tube life.

Thank you for guide me to the tubelab simulations site. you´r site is also helpful. I have to study it - right now i have 6CA7 with a B+ At460v and the Rk is 680 ohm. I have placed the El34 and it sound ok, a litle more light but i do not realy know about when the conditions are at their optimum. I like you´r switch option, perhaps I made this to trim and try...
