The ticking sound on start up is usually caused by the rapid thermal expansion of the tube internals when started up cold. Some tubes make a small tick, some are almost musical with obvious pitch, and some sound like a set of car keys tossed in a blender, but most are silent.

If you are really interested you could try swapping tubes around to find out which one is guilty.

Note, I have seen some capacitors cause a tick - tick - tick sound that slowly fades. I haven't got a clue why this is.
