I'd like to try 6V6 tubes in my SSE but the B+ from my Edcor XPWR035 is
too high for these.
Is this Edcor dual high voltage power transformer suitable for switching
between 6V6 and KT88 and other tubes ?
EDCOR - XPWR144-120/240
The dual voltages are 760V and 640V (380-320-0-320-380) at 200mA
which are a little bit above what Tubelab recommends.
The 6.3v main filament winding is rated for 3.5a, below what Tubelab
recommends so any problem here ?
This one is also much lighter than the XPWR035, 6.33lbs vs 9.75lbs
Opinions anyone ?

What type of rectification are you using? Choosing the right voltage drop will probably allow you to use that HV without problems.
Not sure about the heater draw, though.
Yes it is the low 3.5a on the 6.3v heater supply that is putting me off.
It is fine for the 5v rectifier supply.
Anybody else have any comments on this ?
6v6 data sheet says about .5A heater draw. 12AT7 is less than half an amp. You'd be covered with 3.5A.
EL34's or KT88's, on the other hand, are 1.5A+ so you would be really pushing it.
If you're willing to wait on an Edcor, have you considered having something custom built (as in not choosing a pre-configured transformer)?

I don't know, maybe later on I'll just build a smaller SSE for 6V6 tubes,
problem is I have too much equipment and no more space which is why
I was thinking of a combo amp using a dual high voltage xfrmr.
