If you get serious about buying the 1700A make sure that the oscillator will settle into low distortion mode. This seems to be a fairly common fault & can be difficult to repair due to availability of parts.

I have a Sound Technology ST 1700B with the IMD option (Option 004) but most often I just measure THD with my HP8903A.
