Smile Tube Lab Simple SE with interstage transformer

Is there any merit to substitute the inter-stage capacitor of the Simple SE with an interstage transformer. I read that insterstage tranformers are thought to be better but are more expensive thus are used less often. What would have to be changed in the circuit to accomodate the transformer?
