I have no idea of the forum's infrastructure software's capabilities - but is it easy to add some more file types to be allowed in attachments?
like popular eda file types? I know some people have trouble editing filename extensions - or even seeing them and I dislike using .zip for everything |

This is easy.
There is an admin setting to specify all allowed extensions. This goes for almost every respectable forum software and www.vbulletin.com is maybe the best there is, freeware and commercial softwares all included available. But good safe administration of a big forum with many different kinds of members has got to be somewhat if not to say VERY restrictive with potentially 'dangerous' file extensions. .exe .js and such would be a real hazard bad hackers could send up some executable scripts/programs and tempt people to click on them = run and this forum would maybe be one big mess after a severe crash. Now, there are many harmless new filetypes, like the one you suggest. But by standard defaults for forum, there are only a few 'safe' extensions allowed. Like a number image types + txt + zip + pdf .. By the way, if you can upload some unusual, not common file formats, instead of zip, then they may be useless, as most people do not have the software to unpack them. Regards Lineup
