Well, my 60G maxtor drive, without warning,
has dropped dead. It's a bit over three
years old and interestingly enough, its
warranty period has just expired. (Almost like
those replicants in Blade Runner. )
How long are modern drives expected to last anyway?
My computer on average was on maybe 15 hours a week.
Running win98 meant it had quite a few unintended shutdowns
in its days... It was one of the earlier 7200RPM drives
so I wonder if that caused it to wear out faster.
Meanwhile, my old 1.6G WD from 1996 is still running ok...
