I love how the abstract says "An impedance matched resonant circuit uses inductors coupling an audio source and a speaker array in order to reduce feedback reflection induced by an audio signal traveling from the audio source to the array of speakers."

But the actual CLAIM in the patent says "1. A circuit configured to reduce quantization noise in an audio signal reconstructed from digitally encoded audio..."

This guy Rauschmayer supposedly has a PhD in electrical engineering from Temple University and had been with Texas Instruments for 14 years before getting involved with REV33, but the patent reads like it was written by some layperson stitching together results from Google searches. No idea who this Wayne J. Powell is.

It is not an "impedance matched resonant circuit" but a crude low pass filter; resonance needs to be avoided in order to avoid causing the very thing this simple circuit claims to prevent. "Feedback reflection" is meaningless. "Induced" is perhaps just a pseudo-posh way of saying "caused"; in EE 'induced' has a particular meaning which presumably is not intended here. "Slope differential" is either tautology or a peculiar name for the second differential.

It appears to be a way of coping with cheap filterless Class D chips, by adding an external filter. Much better for FCC/Ofcom etc. to ban filterless Class D on EMC grounds.

Why does a simple filter have to be sold with such hype? Is it merely a justification for the price, or an acknowledgement that the target market (musicians and their techs) don't understand technology and so need to be told a good story.
The world is full of products that give hazy/hype explanations, so what/BFD.
The point of this product is that it makes a very useful difference, and is in a suitable form factor for the application.

Dan.
