ah, the good old days of Audio Magazine's, Lirpa Labs

my favorite excerpt from the XPA amps ad copy:

Note: This amp is so dense that, in the event of a nuclear attack or reactor “incident”, it’s guaranteed to reduce gamma ray exposure by 29% if you stand behind it and crouch down real low. We actually tested this, and the amp was still playing after 48 hours, and sounded just fine (the white lab mouse we placed in the amp was definitely still alive, although we weren’t able to perform any medical tests because it ran away, but the amp did need a really thorough cleaning).

I does not claim to lift any veils, so it cannot be high-end

"Villager review" ....

Just a 1200VA toroid (in a metal box) Good !

Power = "more than you will ever need"
Most likely in the pass X250 (slewmaster) range.
Triple EF - VFA differential (leach) front end.

lots of linear power = 180Kuf

So , a bigger slewmaster with gold plating for 17K$.

Same as the XPA-2 (plain = 1K$) except for the gold.
16K for the gold !!
Go buy some investment ingots !!

Geez !!
Edit - this review describes this class amp as "fun" .....
Mini-review: Emotiva XPA-2: Meaner Than a Junkyard Dog! | Hi-Fi Systems Reviews | HighFidelityReview - Hi-Fi systems, DVD-Audio and SACD reviews
Yes , 500w peaks are "fun" !
