Electric eel, Stingray - Why is it only ocean creatures have this high Voltage gift?

The oriental hornet has the capacity to change sunlight into electrical energy. Not necessarily high-voltage, but if you wire a few in series...

High-voltage stuff is only useful (for deterence or predation) if you can make good electrical contact, which is much easier to do when you're both wet. Dry skin doesn't conduct so well.

The oriental hornet has harnessed "natural electricity" and is not an aquatic creature, you're right!


It doesn't use the electricity for self-defense or to zap other creatures AFAIK, however I didn't specify that in the question.
