There are two Forbidden Planets. The lessor known one wan an animation. The original black and white is a classic, maybe lessor known only to the Millennium generation.
Best short ever: Godzilla vs. Bambi. There were a bunch of fantastic animations out of Eastern Europe in the 70 and 80's shown on PBS back then. Never seen them again.
Sluth, original Inlaws, Forbin Project, The Bedford Incident.
Very funny and definitely lessor known was "The First Pornographic Musical" If you are wondering, it was not erotic, it was a comedy. It would not qualify for TV though.

Hmmm... only one that I know of, 1956 and in glorious Eastman Color. I've seen a beautiful archive print of that one, it's stunning. Not in B&W. Best Sci-Fi film of the 1950s.
The other you might be thinking of is the animated film Fantastic Planet from 1973. Definitely worth watching, but best seen when tripping.
Fantastic Quite correct. As I did not trip artificially, I will say it sure was fun on a date. The other film I understand is best seen while under the influence was Reefer Madness. We showed on a comedy night when in College. I wonder what the original producers would have thought of that.

On the short list for sure. Best "effect" in a early si-fi was in about 1986 I finally found The Day the Earth Stood Still on TV during hours I was awake. At 12:00 in the elevator scene, cable went out. Dead. Talk about sending chills up your spine for a second! It was almost two years before I got to see the ending.

For most of my childhood I thought The Wizard of Oz was in black and white, 'cause I'd only ever seen it on our old Zenith TV!
Certainly have and very enjoyable. Having lived at Forbes for three years as a teenager, it was funny to see that all of the filming "in town" was actually shot in Forbes! If you look carefully at the "Parkes Ambulance Station" you can see the Parkes is actually stuck on and covering the word Forbes.
One of my friends Fathers was actually involved in fixing a communications problem which threatened the mission if I recall correctly
