U2 has a concert that starts in 17 minutes and they must all cross a bridge to get there.

First thing I would do is sack the blinkin' production manager that put the changing rooms on the wrong side of the blinkin' river. Then I'd get the helicopter doing the aerial shots to pick them up.

Me neither. I've gone over and over it. It always comes out to more than 17 minutes. There is a trick I'm missing.

Doing it the simple way you end up with 19 minutes. Must think harder.

It must be like the farmer, pig potato puzzle. Let's see:
Bono and Edge cross. 2 mins
Bono returns: 3 mins
Adam and Larry cross: 13 mins
Edge returns: 15 mins
Bobo and Edge return: 17 minutes.

They then get high and the concert starts an hour late.

Damn it, I had it figured also. You beat me to it Pano.
I converted them to numbers and realized that the way it added up, 5 and 10 had to cross at the same time while the other two were split on either side. From that point on it was easy. Good going Michael.

I had it figured out as soon as i read it, a simple math problem (shortest tour) there is only one way it could work. But i had to go do the mail.

Good one, Pano. As far as I got was... Bono should carry the flashlight, but that must be the gotcha, so when would he not be the carrier? Knowing now it's the Bono/Edge combo, it also works like this:
Bono and Edge cross: 2 mins
Edge returns: 4 mins
Adam and Larry cross: 14 mins
Bono returns: 15 mins
Bono and Edge return: 17 minutes.

The lion/potato combo was much easier to spot.

You quickly realize that the two slowest must go together. My big hang up was having Bono carry the light every time because he's the fastest. I just kept sending them over the bridge until I worked it out. It's that extra trip, like with the boat that does the trick. They deserve a good toke, now.

I can be a little slow myself. I didn't realize the answer to my question was "when the two slowest cross" until it was too late.
