Default science-based audio companies...

Hey,

i was wondering if there was a list of audio companies who don't market based on snake oil (as in, don't suggest that maybe your problem is your interconnects, or that shatki stones could be room treatments, or talk about the magic of cryogenized cables), but rely on no-BS, sound engineering. Bryston, Benchmark, Parasound, NAD and Harman somewhat come to mind, but what would the others be ?

Well first and foremost were Western Electric and its spin-off, Altec. They set the standard.

In the pro audio world you can count on Canare, Belden and Mogami for no-nonsense cables. Meyer Sound and a few others for speakers. There is less BS in pro advertising than Hi-Fi, even tho pros are just as susceptible to it.

In the past it would have included Quad, but I don't know what they do nowadays.

I suspect that most start with sound engineering, then the marketing department gets involved...

A few start with what they THINK is sound engineering, and a few start with no other reason than to make a fast buck. Most are as Pinkmouse says. VTL, Dynaco & Hafler to add a few more.

How well does a Science based approach sell? Hi-Fi isn't all about science, it's about entertainment and emotions. Kinda difficult to pitch that in dry, scientific terms, no?

Truth, clearly stated, has an emotional connection, but it tends not to be super-normal.

Once on AES convention I knocked grills of their speakers looking at representatives. Grills were ringing like bells, but representatives did not understand what I mean...
