Mr. Klimas, 52, the former auto-body shop worker, has been lacquering pianos since Steinway hired him seven years ago — he knew Mr. Senia's brother-in-law, who knew there was an opening. "There's less trouble with these than with cars," said Mr. Klimas, who started on the long, straight side and worked back and forth like an oscillating fan. "Not as many colors to match."
