For any number, such as 89764396, can be written as a series of digits, all seperate.

Consider each one in turn,

8x9 = 72
9x9 = 81
6x9 = 54
etc etc
when any single digit (>1) is multiplied by 9, the "tens" column increases by 1, and the "units" column descreases by 1, so they always add to a constant: 9


Another interesting fact:
You can't walk around a revolving door twice without smiling. (try it)
