Wait! Did he just say getting on top is the tricky part?? I would think getting out of bed knowing you have to go up there would be the trickest part!

That looks like it would be fun. I'd want to be in better shape than i currently am (like were i was 25 years ago), and i'd use the safety line if i was to go up the part at the top. And forgry about the spindly biy at the extreme top.

You have to have good knees and good workboots cause you're standing all the time. That's a really tall one since it has the strobe on top. Shorter ones (under 1000ft) just have a red light. And it must be old since the newer tall ones have an elevator.

Fear hurts too, actually the last inch of the fall is the only one it wouldn't hurt; just a nuisance compared to the several seconds of psychological terror that precedes it.

I went skydiving on my 30th birthday and doing that was a piece of cake. I saw a clip of one of those towers crumbling when a guy wire snapped taking at least 2 men with it. No way!

Seeing him place that clip on the rung didn't give me great confidence.

Sears Tower glass balconies

I haven't been up there recently but my next trip to Sears (Willis) Tower will include walking on the glass balconies that are on the west side of the tower's obsevation deck. 1350', straight down.

When I was a kid I wanted the job of changing the lights on radio towers - just so I could climb up there. Love heights!

One of my proudest school moments was focusing lights in a theater by standing on a chair that was in top of a table that was on top of a scaffold. Very shaky and I could just reach. Good times. Also used to go up to the top of the Eiffel tower every chance I got just for the view - and stay for hours. Wonderful. My wife thinks I'm insane.

But those guys on that tower are my new heroes.

In the video below, the worker obviously has a much less risky job, (ahem) since there is some chance that a fall could be survivable, depending upon his exact position. Note that he's also using a safety line to prevent falling, however getting someone "unhooked" from that safety line could be an interesting proposition!

I don't have any depth perception so my visual centres can't tell how high I am. Then the logic centres come in and OMG! I would want a parachute on. I know it would be useless but sort of like a security blanket. I guess they get big $$$ in their paypackets. They can keep it!
