Of course, a bigger challenge is to recognize that it really is a mirror image of itself, as opposed to another identical robot set up in a fixed position posing in an approximate mirror-image. But it need only detect its movements being reflected intantly in a complementary way.

This has actually been done - in Japan. And another robot was set to recognize that one and mimic it, IIRC. A twin robot would not be difficult to make, so the robot must know its motions to determine which robot is itself in the mirror. Twin humans often don't know which person in the photo is them. "Is that me, or my brother?" But they know in the mirror because of the feedback. Robots can do that, too.

A robot can be literally self-aware, but does that give it conscientiousness?
It knows who it is and can identify itself.
