I feel offended.
I clicked on the stop spam button but it did not help at all!
Anyone has some good advice (no, no not about the product:D) to stop this once and for all.:mafioso::mad:

Elso,

As a first rule, never reply to those messages asking them to stop e-mailing you. What you are doing is telling them that the address is active and somebody is looking at messages. This will most likely increase the spam.
You did not mention what mail client you use, but most of them have filters that can be applied even before the message is retrieved from the server. In Outlook Express for example, you can go to tools/Message Rules/Mail. Other mail clients have similar features.
Here is an example for Outlook Express:
Click on New and create a filter by checking the appropriate boxes. Give it a meaningful name and save it.

A caution! Beware all those ads for products promising to make your whatsis longer. I found out the hard way (bad pun) that the effects of these devices and pills are additive. Now, after using ten different products, each promising an extra 3 to 6 inches, I keep tripping over that thing. Very, very inconvenient.

Fortunately, I'll be able to afford a surgical repair, just as soon as all that Nigerian money shows up in my bank account.

Proof that spam is not aimed at your specific needs: I constantly recieve ads for a drug that'll make me taller...well ok, I am only 1,95 m (6'5&quot)

You are right! In my hotmail account, before setting up the "exclusive" filter, I used to get messages inviting me to enhance different parts of my anatomy. Some of them did not apply to my gender, of course.

:)

For those of you that have visited adult-oriented sites or installed shareware, I strongly suggest to check you computer for spyware. Those pesky programs track your on-line activities and report them back to the sender. They usually attract more spam. You can download Ad-aware, my favorite, here for free (personal edition):

http://www.lavasoftusa.com/

Add that to the list of good things that come from Sweden.

Ad-aware

Hi grimberg,
I downloaded and installed the Ad-aware program you suggested.
It found 6 data-mining files mostly from gator after scanning my computer.
I am a bit shocked. Now I have a virusscanner, firewall, Ad-aware.
What else do I need??
 :bawling: :bawling:
Anyway grimberg and all others thanks for the help!:)

And to have your e-mail on your homepage is another good way to get spammed, so ive heard.

Keld with 50-100 spams per day.

Having your e-mail on your home page is a sure way to get spammed. Many people write something like nospammyname@mydomain.com and count on people figuring out that the expression "nospam" has to be removedefore sending a message. The programmers who write the bots that mine for e-mail addresses from home pages are smart and know what to remove. A more effective way would be to express your e-mail as:
Contact me using myname in domain mydomain with extension com.
This is just an example. If you look around you will find other creative ways of doing it.

One very effective filter is the one my universities is using. I don'T know what it is but I didn'T receive a single spam and I use this adresse everywhere.

I don't know how it is done at your university, but in general, spam is avoided by analyzing patterns.

1) Certain sequences of words in the subject.
2) Certain sequences of words in the message body.
3) Large number of e-mails with exactly the same subject line.
4) Reply to address invalid or masked.
5) Large number of messages coming from certain IP addresses.

These are just for illustration purposes. There are more sophisticated ways to try and detect spam. The programmers hired by spammers are smart and talented people too so they alway come up with ways to defeat most filters.

The Unix program Mail.app which is bundled with Mac OS X has this function and is effective in many cases.

Nice to know but 99 % of mankind has a pc :clown: These functions are not restricted to Mac's and certain OS'es only. A good mailclient has them too ( or should have them ;) )

Although I have a Mac myself I am beginning to dislike the U-word in combination with MacOS X. It's like keep on saying that there is alcohol in wine.

Mailwasher is a good program to bounce mail but unfortunately they have become commercial and the latest version is not free anymore. The version before that can still be downloaded and is free. Just Google for mailwasher2b28.exe and I think you will find the file.
