It's not a bad idea, but if the system on that drive is so corrupted that nothing works anymore it's a waste of time, except to try and make backups.
I'm afraid kelticwizard will have to fall back on backups, if any...

Ya hopefuly no CMOS corruption o_O, and well worth a try with hooking up the drive to a virri protected system o_O, it takes an hour at most, ah well... damn viruses :/ So pointless...
