Yes, you need to drill holes for them. It's so that people can mount using three feet if they want, to ensure a "no wobble" platform. This has been raised as an issue before, and it may change to pre-drilled holes in the future (which would leave two extra holes if you wanted to use 3 feet, currently avoided by letting customers DIY). If you think it's weird that this situation creates required drilling on a chassis that otherwise requires no drilling, I would agree with you!
