The original 5800 was designed by Nelson Pass and uses complementary mosfet outputs biased hot enough to require cooling fans.
The 5802 uses a quasi-complementary output that is all N-channel mosfets. The bias is much less requiring no fans and smaller heatsinks. More watts but more distortion probably. I suspect that the 5800 runs the first watt in Class A bias but I've never heard it confirmed.
