NVM I misunderstood.
you really should disclose where the parts are coming from, you didnt even declare it here in this thread until it was found out. so this one is being sent by you in the USA or not? Last edited by qusp; 7th April 2012 at 09:52 AM. |

Well, that was exciting!
Let's summarize what we've all learned from this: A) Sometimes a parcel sent from [unknown country] with [unknown carrier] doesn't reach it's destination. B) When in doubt, blame Canada.

Perhaps a Moderator could bring this thread to the attention of those who set the rules and ensure that no Swap Meet threads can be started by those who do not state, either in their sidebar details or in the OPENING notice at the beginning of the thread:
Their Country of ACTUAL Residence. The location at which the goods offered are to be despatched from. Shipping details. This thread fortunately does not involve a lot of money but it takes no imagination to see what could happen when advertisers are unscrupulous! I am not suggesting that Tommy has been dishonest, but he has certainly in this instance been very economical with the truth . |

So you don't "blame" Canada, you just punish Canadian DIYers. Got it.
By the way China is Canada's 3rd largest export market and 2nd largest source of imports (about 10% of imports). So there must be some way to move stuff between the two countries, you would think?

You just can't get an assigned tracking # via USPS for the whole route because there are two different agencies and two different tracking #'s. That's similar to shipping via tracked mail from any country to here; Hong Kong post for example assigns a tracking # to just about everything. Also in Canada if it's shipped via USPS but is big or heavy it's taken from the border via Purolator Courier, not Canada Post. All of this stuff goes by air in Canada, it's faster than air mail usually since that goes to Canada Post sorting and gets delivered by a mailman, not a courier truck. Brokerage fee to the recipient is $5 by Canada Post or $8 via Purolator, but it has to be above a certain value for brokerage fee to apply. UPS or FedEx charges varying brokerage fees, but the minimum is about $35 for a low value item. That is actually comprised of about 4 different fees (brokerage, COD fee for collecting brokerage, a fee if they pay 5% GST, plus recover the 5% of declared value paid out on your behalf if over $20 declared value. On a $100 item they will pay $5 tax and demand about $50 on delivery).
