Default Wanted: Small 220 variac

I need a small variac, any 220-240V input rating is fine. Smallest size possible, current/power rating not an issue. Doesn't need to be in a case of any kind, I will be putting it in a piece of test equipment.

US seller is best for cost/shipping reasons, I'm not looking to spend a lot for it. Thanks.

well dgta I was being kind of a wise a'poiwa -- You said that current/power rating not an issue and I always thought of a variac as a kind of heavy duity variable resistor. You should describe your application a little more and I'll bet the answers improve in kind.

No need to describe. I don't need a substitute or advice, I need a variac. You either have one for sale or you don't.

And no, a variac is NOT a heavy duty variable resistor. I think that's what's confusing you. It's nothing like a pot. It's an autotransformer. So it's a lot more like a transformer than a pot.

Well OK - But a transformer provides isolation from say 220VAC mains voltage and a autotransformer does not. A variac is not a transformer.

I can wire my Variacs as transformers or autotransformers, just by whether one primary wire and one secondary wire are connected or not. And yes, an autotransformer is a kind of transformer.

Too heavy to ship to Michigan, sorry. Probably bigger than you wanted anyway. And two are mounted on a 19" rack panel. And mine are really for 120v input.
