Italian customs are disordered and if US post is reilable, you can not say so about italian post. If you have to send to Italy I suggest private shipping company like fedex, DPD, TNT.
I use them and never had bad surprises.

I've sent stuff there. Never arrived. Was really annoyed with myself though. Because I did not keep the proof of shipment, therefore I could not claim it back. So I had to send a second pair of chokes. Which did fortunately arrive.
