I need a small diameter tube, but I'm unable to find locally something appropriate, only some metal ones, that I don't want because they can vibrate.
I found the tube I need by Parts-Express: Port Tube 1" ID x 4" L Flared The problem is that PE doesn't ship to Italy such a small order, so I'm asking someone who already needs material from PE to include also the tube and then ship it to me. I expect a small package to Italy to cost in the order of 5$. Payment by paypal. Write directly to ralf_loi at it . ibm . com Thanks |

Hi,
Do You just need one? I have a 1 1/2" X 4" long flaired port from PE in my junk box. If you can use it you can have it free. Just pay me for shipping. |

Thank you for your kind offer, but I have severe constraint in space on the baffle, and I don't want to put it on the rear because it is for near field. The 1" is the only one that fits.
And yes, I need only one. Thanks again, Ralf |

If you only need a small diameter tube for a reflex box port, I suggest that you use a cardboard mailing tube. Look for a tube that is smooth inside. These are easy to find in the USA, at any store that sells office supplies and they are very inexpensive. It will be more than adequate for the job, since the small diameter will make it stiff enough. You can easily glue it in to the cabinet wall, and then chamfer the hole (flare it where it opens to the outside) if you would like.

There is a large selection of thin wall PVC-tubing you can get at your local DIY supply. It is actually quite easy to make flares on these, using a little heat. First find an object you can use as a punch to make the flare. White wine bottles work good, but might be a tad too large for 1" pipe. What you do is wrap some masking tape around the pipe where you want the flare to end. Heat it up the end to about 120-130 degrees C with a heat gun at middle setting. Then push on top of the bottle or other object.
P.S. When I lived in the US I noted that the white PVC pipes being used for drainage in plumbing are way thicker than the grey ones used in Europe. Don't think it will work with thick walled pipe.

In the spirit of DIY I appreciate the suggestions. However I would like to use a tube with a flange, and for this reason I'm asking for the PE tube, because I was unable to find a generic tube small enough that could be adapted (the smallest I saw was in the 45 mm ID range). I can also find small metallic tubes (I have one), but probably they will resonate.
Thanks |
