Raindrop Hui TDA1541A DAC Kit

1 Attachment(s)
Comes with multi-input converter for USB, Optical, XLR. I think I2S as well but I did not try that. Output caps are removed, but you will want to add your own anyway. I paid $130 shipped. Asking $65 plus shipping.

I have been using the Tda1541a from Raindrop Hui. It clips on cds with a lot of gain or with high dynamics. Has anyone else had this problem? If so, what can be done about it?

I'm curious about this problem - I've met the designer of raindrop_hui's boards, so I'll be happy to pass on feedback to him. Which model and with which CDs?

Models is DAC TDA1541A+WM8805 NOS 1.0UI multi-input.
Optical of COAX output from Oppo.
CD. Dido - No Angel - Any track massive clipping
Stereophile Test Disk 2 Track 8.
Does not clip with input from Airport Express. (Maybe lower level digital signal.

Sorry that should read optical OR coax input.

abraxalito 10th April 2011 01:57 AM

The clipping is observed on a scope? And what voltage level does the clipping happen at?

msmart2b 10th April 2011 03:08 AM

My scope is not in my living room. So I am not able to see what the signal that causes the clipping looks like. I have no digital processing experience and do not know how to correlate the input digital signal with the out analog signal.

This design looks to be a passive I/V so the output signal level is determined by the value of the resistor to ground at the DAC's outputs (pins 6 & 25). Do you know what value is fitted?
