For sale:
Proac Response 2.5 clones with unfinished MDF cabinets (screwed but not glued - to enable experimentation etc) fitted with spikes and lined with bituminous damping and dacron - as per the spec. Crossovers are the original (Chinese) version with 2.2R added in series with the shunt capacitor in the bass crossover XO to reduce the 2.5KHz bump. I tried lots of different crossovers but this version sounds by far the best to my ears, the notch filter ruined the timing of the music and removed lots of detail (IMHO). The crossover is hardwired and tie-wrapped to a piece of plywood and therefore easy to change if you want to try other versions. The treble units are from the same batch code and the bass units are matched (according to the supplier - although I have no way to verify this). As others have reported, the sound from the Clones varies from absolutely amazing to somewhat tiring depending on the recording quality/type and the system, they certainly require careful system matching to get them to really sing. If the official R2.5s sound similar, as many report, they are not worth £2,700 in my opinion. However for the UK£350 I am asking (which is less than the cost of all the parts), these speakers are pretty damn good. Email if you want more info or pics etc. Dave |
