While the Koss web site states that their lifetime limited warranty only applies to the original purchaser, they don't say anything about sending in proof of purchase, just $6.95 or so as a handling fee.
If I were to buy a used set of Koss headphones that were defective but one of the ones covered in the limited warranty, would I have a problem sending them in to get repaired or replaced? |

Doubtful that you would have a problem, they don't have a list of serial numbers or require any proof of purchase. Myself and several others have replaced ESP950 bought second hand with no problems to date.

The ESP950's are electrostatic, right? Can you drive them from a low power audio source, or would you need an amplifier between the low power source and the control box for the 'phones?
