http://www.talonix.com/shop/item.aspx?itemid=3437 why not a 2N5460/2N5461/2N5462? less than 20 cents each from many places. mlloyd1 |

Hello mlloyd1
Thank you very much for the information . Yes they have , the shipping is $10US to Canada . And you right is not cheap at all com pair to the price of 5460 . Are you sure I can use 5460 ? I ask that because we has in the local surplus store were I used to buy the parts . Ad that would be a lot cheaper , I can save the shipping cost . Thanks one more time . Greets |

That JFET is wired as a current-regulator diode, there's no reason you couldn't replace it with an N-channel device with similar Idss (and flip the gate connection, of course).

Hello sparcnut
Would you be so kind please explain it how I replace the P-channel FET with a N channel FET . Can you make a sketch so I can understand what was your thought . I have 2SK30A at hand , that has the closest Idss to the orig. 2N5465 . I just blew up a DIY amplifier a couple weeks a go . I don't want to repeat the same mistake . Thank you very much . Greets . |

If you have a 2SK30A with reasonable Idss, you can simply flip the FET upside down and attach it the same way. A resistor (range 100R-2K or so) can be inserted in series with the source of the FET (between source and gate) to reduce the current to any value below Idss, if necessary. It's right at the edge of the voltage rating (50v vs. 54v rails), but the LED and voltage drop across the LTP components should keep it from going too high.

Hello
I just study a couple N channel J Fet the best choice it would be 2SK117BL . Of course is has different pin out but the Idss is very close to the original 2N5465 . I will use a resistor before the LED to decrease the voltage a bit for safe purpose . Now I understand how all these works . Thank you one more time sparcnut . I'm happy not just because the problem got solved because now I learn something new . Greets . |

Does anyone know the best one or the difference in using in a circuit 2n5460 and 2n5462 vwersus 2n5463 and 2n5465? I have a Precision Fidelity amp and it uses those but on different boards.
